Transcripts from an interview. Answered by Chris Pine!

CHRIS PINE ON JIM KIRK IN THE 2009 FILM: He’s young. He’s impulsive. He trusts his gut. He listens to his heart. He follows his passions, whichever way they throw him. He’s a man of the flesh, I think—his mind goes along with whatever his beating heart is telling him to move toward. That was a lot of fun to play in the first movie—the guy in the bar who’s drunk and hits on a woman and gets in a fight. That kind of microcosm—that’s the man.

ON WHAT’S CHANGED FOR CAPTAIN KIRK: Coming into the second film, I don’t know how self-aware Jim Kirk is of his own faults. I think he leads with his bravado and thinks he’s just that—just brawn and strength and courage and decisiveness. John Harrison, our bad guy, it’s like he puts up a huge mirror and Kirk finally has to slow down for a minute and look at all that he thinks are his strengths. I think he sees in those strengths a lot of cracks in his armor. He’s brought to his knees, and becomes very vulnerable, very, very insecure and questioning. It’s like he has a mini-—not a mini, a major existential crisis in the midst of a major, world-ending crisis. I don’t know if that’s a sign of masculinity or that’s a sign of being human, of what it means to be human. Being human is being questioning and introspective, I think.

Recent interview with with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof for Star Trek

Most hilarious part:

This first movie is just a love story between Spock and Kirk. It has all the beats of a romantic comedy where they meet, they don’t get along, they totally hate each other, and then they get into a situation where they kind of need each other, and by the end Spock walks onto the bridge and he’s like, ‘Let’s fuck!’” --Damon Lindelof

lulz

[OOC] "Stay away from my nurses"

I will eventually put up relevant bits from the novel but right now I just want to highlight these two parts.

"
Hey. You mind your manners."

Turning, a smiling Kirk reached out and clapped a friendly hand on the cadet's shoulder. He had to reach up to do so. "At east, cupcake. I didn't touch and I didn't say anything weal bad. It was a wink." He batted his eyes. "Or are you just jealous I didn't wink at
you?"

AND

Uhura - "You know he's been through half the cadet corps since he got here? There are rumous not all of them are humanoid."
Kirk - "They were all humanoid. I think."

[OOC] Bits from the Trek Commentary

The secret word is pineappple )

Best quote though: He shares what most villains want which is to kill Kirk or Spock. Wouldn't it be great if we had a villain who said, "I want to kill Sulu"?

[OOC] Novelisation - Part One

I still don't own the novels, so I listened to the audiobook and typed this out. THE THINGS I DO WITH MY TIME.

Chapter Fourteen | Jim's childhood )

I might type out Chapter Fifteen too which is Jim's magical driving-pseudo SUICIDE adventure. Key points from this were.

-The creators can't make up their minds. Stepfather? OR BROTHER?
-George really was Jim's world. /o\
-Other than a few things said, it's pretty much the same as the deleted scene. I'm sticking to the deleted scene mostly anyway.

I’ve also added some stuff about the Reboot!Verse and how it’s different from the TOS!Verse. Also, this essay might be retconned at a moment's notice WHAT WILL THE NEW MOVIE BRIIIIIIING. I might add new stuff as people bring me more info, insights etc!! WHICH I TOTALLY WELCOME /o\ ;;

[OOC] Canon Notes

Article on the Star Trek deleted/scripted scenes

Two things that caught my eye.

The sequence where Kirk and Spock beam on to the Narada has a little extra bit where Spock gets cruelly violent to Romulans at Kirk's order. It's an unattractive moment, best forgotten. It was replaced with the nifty gun battle where the effects guys made the Federation phasers very cool. Definitely a change for the better.

Yeah, thank god /o\

Finally, at the end of the script is provided an alternate take on the scene in which Spock and Spock Prime meet. Before saying goodbye, Spock Prime hands Spock a locket. Spock activates the locket and sees a holographic video of Kirk, and by that I mean Shatner, singing happy birthday to Spock and congratulating him on becoming an ambassador. The message continues, basically telling Spock that the two of them should get back together one more time with a starship and just... explore.

I. Just. That is so cute. A locket ;;

There are some bits on the Kobayashi Maru and the Romulans too.

[OOC] Deleted Scenes/Notes

Star Trek XI Deleted Scenes [Kirk's Childhood, Baby Spock, Spock's parents arguing, Kirk's Apology, Klingon Space and Rura Penthe]

Spoilers and thoughts )

Originally, Winona would not have remarried, but left her boys to be cared for by her brother (or brother-in-law) Frank (Brad William Henke), who was abusive to them whenever she was off-world. This forced George Samuel Kirk to run away from home, and Jim, who was a good pupil who always obeyed orders, to steal George's antique car that Frank treated as if it was his own.
